Is Fang Bing Bing The New Zhang Ziyi?
Written By: christine

Lost In BeijingBased on the international buzz the movie Lost In Beijing has been has been getting since its ban in China, I'm going to take a wild guess and say it'll take on a second life success overseas in much the way the Shanghai Baby book did when it was banned years ago. Anything racy that gets banned in China usually does.

Hmmm... if director Li Yu is banned in China from making films for 2 years...that doesn't stop him from making films outside of China does it? I wonder if the higher profile will translate to even bigger success for him overseas.

I definitely know who's going to benefit...and who's going to lose out...as a result of this movie's ban. Zhang Ziyi's is probably going to get a lot less attention from Hollywood now that Fan Bing Bing is on the international scene. Just a guess. She's younger. The star of a banned movie from China and usually only room for one famous foreign Chinese actress to have her day on the red carpet in Hollywood.

Click here for some other great eye candy pictures of her from her modeling days. If I was Zhang Ziyi, I'd be worried! LOL.

This Is Why She's Hot - On The Cover Of FHM Malaysia

Che'nelleA big congratulations to Che'Nelle and her manager, my super awesome friend Charles Dixon on landing Che'Nelle on the cover of FHM Malaysia!

If you haven't heard of this beautiful half-Chinese, Malaysian and Indian recording artist named Che'Nelle yet, that's because you're catching an international star who's about to blow up. I'm not just saying that. The girl is talented. I met her last December in NYC.

Here's a social media story for all my fellow geek friends to follow. Che'Nelle's career was launched from her MySpace page. She writes, mixes and produces her own songs and is the reason why my friend Charles (djsircharles on Twitter) -- a 20+ year music industry veteran -- flew from NYC to Perth, Australia a few years ago and got this girl signed to Virgin Records (now Capitol Records) in 3 days.

Almost 40K MySpace friends later and over 1 million hits combined on all her "I Fell In Love With A DJ" videos up on Youtube, (also posted on the top left of this blog) I'd say it's a good start. =) She's already famous in Australia, Southeast Asia and Japan.

Che'Nelle is going to be performing in China for the first time at the upcoming Dreamblogue Dream Bash golf charity event in Mission Hills so for all my China friends in south China check it out!

...look forward to seeing Che'Nelle and Charles again at The China Business Network dinner we're hosting in NYC next week!

FYI, if you're interested in interviewing or booking Che'Nelle for a performance I'll be happy to put you in contact with Charles.

...and here's Che'Nelle featured in a live performance of "This Is Why I'm Hot" (minute 2:50 of video)

This Song Gets Stuck In My Head All Day

My dedication to building bridges in 2008 involves any business sector with a genuine interest in understanding how to localize their China strategy. The music industry is no different.

My friend and veteran music producer, Charles Dixon is planning his first trip to China, but I can tell he already "gets it" and will do quite well. He's spent the past few months building personal relationships with those on the ground in China and is working with Che'Nelle (half Chinese herself) on translating key songs into Chinese.

Case in point, the very popular "I Fell In Love With A DJ" song above has now been translated into Chinese courtesy of language and brand strategy consulting from CultureFish Media. The 2 videos of this song have already collectively received 1 million+ hits on YouTube in a matter of months. Imagine once her Chinese version hits on Baidu.

Initial focus groups conducted by CultureFish Media among Chinese university students in China confirm what we already know, Che'Nelle has international appeal and I'm confident that her current popularity in Australia, Japan, US and the UK will extend to China this year. Good Luck Charles! You deserve it.
