...and after over an hour on the road, I made it to my friends Jeff & Lina's place and they didn't waste anytime feeding me. Actually, a good lesson for all of you. In Chinese culture, the equivalent of saying "hello, how are you" when you see someone is asking them if they've eaten yet. LOL. No wonder I'm always thinking of food. It's because I talk to a lot of people. Pavlov's Dog action kicks in. Example: I may say "Hi, nice to meet you" when I really mean "Gee, I'm hungry. Let's eat"
I worked for 5 years at TVSN (TV Shopping Network and Home Shopping Network's JV) Their office was in the Shanghai Centre. In the video, I made a mistake calling that building across the street the Friendship something ruther (lol) It's actually the Shanghai Exhibition Centre and the Soviet Union helped build it in 1955 back when the two countries were still cool like that. So I guess you can unofficially call it The Friendship Something Ruther Building.
On my way back from the airport, passed the CBD of Shanghai. This is the section of town I used to work at for 5 years. My office was at the Shanghai Centre on Nanjing Lu.
Note the changing rainbow lights on the commercial building and cool blue neon lights lining the expressway. Very Shanghai.
If you're stuck in traffic on an hour drive into the city from the Pudong airport on a Friday afternoon rush hour...this is what it looks like staring out your the window.
Finally in the car on my way into the city after a long 12 hour flight. Friday afternoon traffic meant a good hour on the road before getting to Jeff and Lina's place.
This one's a bit blurry but just wanted to give you an idea of what it always looks like when you first walk out after getting your baggage. Lots of people waiting. People holding signs. Gypsy cab drivers luring unsuspecting foreigners away...
