Superhero Week On Twitter
Written By: christine
2008-04-05 23:03:32

This week has been designated "Superhero Week" on Twitter. I'm not sure by who but it seems to have originated from now RL ("real life" aka person I have met in person) friend samlawrence, the CMO of Jive Software.

For those who have yet to jump into the addiction that is Twitter, it'll be hard to explain why there are weekly themes such as Superhero Week. I'll save that for another post. In the meantime you can read @jkuramot's post on OracleApps or check out the hashtag page for #supers on Twitter.

This post is just something to link to so I can stop tweeting on who the green haired avatar is and why I chose her.

Who The Green Haired Avatar Is

The green haired avatar is an anime character from the Robotech cartoon series in the 80's that I totally worshipped as a little girl. Her name is Miriya and she was an original bad ass geek girl fighter pilot who was Ace of the Zentraedi Elite Forces, Captain of the Quadrano Squadron. As described from the Robotech site:

The ace of the Zentraedi Forces, Miriya is a fearsome warrior who piloted the Zentraedi Power Armor. Upon discovering the combat talents of Max Sterling, Miriya takes it upon herself to hunt him down, but finds herself frustrated by the "micronian" ace in combat. Miriya infiltrates the SDF-1 to challenge Max and regain her honor but finds herself humiliated in a video game duel against him tries to kill him in a knife fight. Beaten for a last time, she suddenly finds herself in love and marries him in a historic wedding that unites the humans and the Zentraedi. Miriya sticks by Max's side through the war and helps rebuild Earth from the ashes left by Dolza's fleet.

and here's how she used to kick butt on tv...

...and that is why I am a green haired avatar on Twitter this week. =)

The China Business Network Twitter Mashup

China Business TwitterI'll be in NYC on Monday night to kick off our first of a series of Chinese style business banquet dinners we're planning on doing in major cities this summer.

*still space available, feel free to RSVP here.

Idea started off as a totally social thing for getting China biz friends and contacts in NYC together while my biz partner Janet and I were in town for meetings. Janet is good friends with the owner of Grand Harmony Palace in Chinatown and we thought we'd open it up to inviting those in our network and their friends of friends interested in China business to join us for dinner.

Just as suspected, there is a demand for those involved in China business who are based in cities like NY to connect with each other. Another reason for why I love what I'm trying to create right now. The local chapters in the next phase of our growth is meant to connect the international dots on who's doing business in China so folks have the opportunity to expand their contacts and thus expand their opportunities in doing business there.

At the same time, it turns out that Nick Zhang, the former CEO of Linktone and Mobile2Win had just moved back from China and settled in NY himself. Now here's a guy who gets China and has been successful as CEO of a company that went public and sold his other company recently to Disney. Given that a lot of folks were still new to the China learning curve we thought it'd be great to have him speak about "Understanding The Chinese Business Mindset".

Looks like it was well received gauging from the response of RSVPs we've gotten so far...

*Warning, severe name dropping ahead. LOL.*

Chairman, Stone Drum Capital
CEO, Venturebank China
CEO, eChinaCash
CEO, Blue Lotus Group
CEO, VisualCV
Managing Partner, Law Office of Bart S. Fisher
Founder, Global Sourcing Council
Sr VP Corporate Strategy & Business Development, TicketsNow.com
Director, Tekworks
Global Digital Media Director, MTV Networks

International Recording Artist, Che'Nelle
Global Assets Manager, Merrill Lynch

*End name dropping, begin special Twitter shoutout*

Very excited by the turnout of RSVPs so far. Including those of my friends on Twitter, a good few who I'll be meeting in RL for the first time after all these months of tweeting.

@pishba, @djsircharles, @postonrick, @tlimongello, @davidavdavid, @golfgirl, @chrisathompson

Charge your mobile phones for some live tweeting of the full course traditional Chinese dinner and see you on Monday night! :D

The China Twitterati List

Add an active community of Twitterers from the China space right here.

Just follow ChinaList on Twitter. All those being followed by ChinaList are active China Twitterers. Follow them for China insight.

*If you have no idea what Twitter is here is a nice crash course.

If you are new to Twitter and in China, here's my 2 cents on why you should consider following non-China people.

...IMHO, the key to Twitter is following a good group of interesting people and joining in the conversation no matter where they are. It usually take a few days (for me, i think a few weeks) until the lightbulb goes on and you realize why it's so addicting for some. if you're new to Twitter, definitely check out alltop.com's cool Twitterati list and follow these people for maximum Twitter conversation overload from around the world. :D

...once you get into the swing of things, you can ditch your web version of Twitter for any one of the cool Twitter desktop clients out there. A favorite among many, and the one I use is Twhirl.

...if you have an iPhone and find yourself twittering on the go like me, then give this a try from your iPhone's web browser: iTweet

...and while we're at it, this cartoon is pretty darn funny.
