Seesmic's The Great Village Show Talks China

A big congratulations to Seesmic's Vin Vin and Giselle on their new show The Great Village. The second episode focused on learning more about reasons behind the protests in the leadup to the Beijing Olympics.

Rick Martin and I make cameo appearances in minute 5:45 and 6:20 of the video. :D

Here's Rick's thoughts on what might happen after the Olympics.

For reference, here was my original full length post that they extracted comments from.

Just wanted to note that my "business as usual" comment might have been taken out of context so I did jump back on to clarify by saying the following:

...while I remain a big fan and early adopter of Seesmic (i've met tons of great people who I now count as RL friends), I'm still waiting for a few things to happen so that the China community can start jumping into the conversations and really get a dialog going that is relevant to them.

  • Group feature to allow those with similar interests to develop communitites.
  • Lighter faster loading interface.
  • Ability to record and view Seesmics from Twhirl (who they've acquired)
  • Plugin for Joomla so that I can add video commenting to The China Business Network in much the same way as TechCrunch now has.

I'm sure it's on the way so I'll keep you all posted!

Hello, I'm Still Yellow

Just a friendly service announcement to fellow budding vloggers and friends on Seesmic. A reminder that things you put out there on video come back to you even if you forget about them. Ha ha. I changed my Facebook photo last night because I got bored of the other one. So my friend Chris drops me a comment saying to snag a picture from the "I Am Yellow" video.

I am what? I'm thinking...I Am Yellow? What the heck kind of movie or video is that. Or wait, is he stating the obvious that I am Chinese? WTF? Hmmm... Did I miss some big YouTube craze again? I Am Yellow. I Am Yellow...for the life of me I had no clue. So I asked him to clarify and he kindly reminded me of a Seesmic I did a few months back while I was up in SF for a few days. I was trying to do a Seesmic when I noticed that the lamp in my hotel room was making my skin complexion a really weird creepy yellow.

I was struck with a momentary attack of goofiness and recorded the below video. Totally forgot I had done that. Oh well. Just thought I'd repost as an encore.

...now i'm going to go back to all my other videos and double check them. =\

ha.

My Problem With Protesting The Olympics In China

This is in reply to a discussion in Seesmic regarding the protests surrounding the Olympics. It's a 2am video so bear with me on the point I'm trying to make. =\

Superhero Week On Twitter

This week has been designated "Superhero Week" on Twitter. I'm not sure by who but it seems to have originated from now RL ("real life" aka person I have met in person) friend samlawrence, the CMO of Jive Software.

For those who have yet to jump into the addiction that is Twitter, it'll be hard to explain why there are weekly themes such as Superhero Week. I'll save that for another post. In the meantime you can read @jkuramot's post on OracleApps or check out the hashtag page for #supers on Twitter.

This post is just something to link to so I can stop tweeting on who the green haired avatar is and why I chose her.

Who The Green Haired Avatar Is

The green haired avatar is an anime character from the Robotech cartoon series in the 80's that I totally worshipped as a little girl. Her name is Miriya and she was an original bad ass geek girl fighter pilot who was Ace of the Zentraedi Elite Forces, Captain of the Quadrano Squadron. As described from the Robotech site:

The ace of the Zentraedi Forces, Miriya is a fearsome warrior who piloted the Zentraedi Power Armor. Upon discovering the combat talents of Max Sterling, Miriya takes it upon herself to hunt him down, but finds herself frustrated by the "micronian" ace in combat. Miriya infiltrates the SDF-1 to challenge Max and regain her honor but finds herself humiliated in a video game duel against him tries to kill him in a knife fight. Beaten for a last time, she suddenly finds herself in love and marries him in a historic wedding that unites the humans and the Zentraedi. Miriya sticks by Max's side through the war and helps rebuild Earth from the ashes left by Dolza's fleet.

and here's how she used to kick butt on tv...

...and that is why I am a green haired avatar on Twitter this week. =)

Welcome To Seesmic Fons!

...was checking up on the China Herald blog and come across a post from Fons titled "Omg, I'm Now On Seesmic Too" :D Sure enough, here he is above.

Unfortunately, we are all aware of the choppy internet connection behind the wall that left my face frozen several times while trying to post from Shanghai a few weeks ago.

Nevertheless, there have been videos from Thalia of ChinaOnTV.com, Lonnie Hodge of CultureFish Media and Rick Martin of CNET's Little Red Blog that have come out pretty well. Really look forward to the rest of you joining the conversation. Our question of the week is here. So far, only one answer...but waiting for the rest of you guys to spend the weekend practicing your best camera angles. See you on there soon...

Click here for the China question of the week and hit reply. We look forward to sharing your answers on The China Business Network and ChinaOnTV.com next week!
