Macbook Air Thin Obsession
Written By: christine

Thanks to my friend Gianni for sharing this on Twitter and Seesmic. Come to think of it, the unveiling of the new Macbook Air did leave me feeling a bit fat. I can relate to the notebook computer in this video and am reaching for my tub of ice cream now. I have to admit, that is one sexy laptop. If I were Steve Jobs, I'd throw a few of those babies into a big red envelope and hand deliver it to China Mobile CEO, Wang Jianzhou. Maybe he'll reconsider giving Apple access to their 363 million customers in China.

My Favorite Fonsisms

Fons TuinstraI'm not sure if my friend Fons Tuinstra (founder of ChinaBiz Speakers and the brains behind the China Herald blog) realizes it, but I really look forward to his Facebook status updates because some of them do a good job at cracking me up. It's not just what he says, it's also the way he says it that hits at the core of my sarcastic sense of humor.

Here are my top ten "Fonsisms" of the past few weeks:

  1. Fons got business cards for 25 rmb per 100, a nice deal although it includes a bad service.
  2. Fons is for the first time picking up a parcel from a quaidi at a street corner; everything is possible here.
  3. Fons foresees another day of running around like a chicken without head.
  4. Fons amazed to hear his friend is calling the Merchant Bank almost at midnight on Saturday evening; and got an answer from a real person.
  5. Fons is late sending best wishes for New Year and might wait until the Chinese one.
  6. Fons is shocked to learn a female friend spend more money on the hairdresser than on her mobile phone.
  7. Fons is still amazed about the ability of the Shanghainese to continue talking while eating.
  8. Fons is back from a meeting where people made jokes about the environmental record of Disneyland.
  9. Fons is wondering why his income from Adsense is dropping after he added another box.
  10. Fons is discovering that the nice thing of writing about social networks is just like the weather and soccer, everybody is an authority.

If you guys don't find any of these hilarious then either you've got a problem with your sense of humor...or you've got a problem with your sense of humor. Keep me laughing over here Fons and may you win every single mahjong game this year and get paid for every speaker request you receive!

My Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Revealed

Hey cool. My conversation starter regarding OCDs got picked up as a Seesmix topic on Seesmic. Now I get to share with the rest of you what drives me absolutely crazy about myself.

One week in the pre-launch community of Seesmic and I must say, it's quite addicting. You totally get over the self conscious issues of being in front of a webcam after about the 2nd or 3rd time and find yourself meeting some really cool people from around the world and joining conversations about all sorts of stuff.

Now if I can only get some more of my China friends on there...drop me a line if you're interested in an invite code. I'll work on getting you one provided you promise to get on there and join the conversation...

Superhero Week On Twitter
Written By: christine

This week has been designated "Superhero Week" on Twitter. I'm not sure by who but it seems to have originated from now RL ("real life" aka person I have met in person) friend samlawrence, the CMO of Jive Software.

For those who have yet to jump into the addiction that is Twitter, it'll be hard to explain why there are weekly themes such as Superhero Week. I'll save that for another post. In the meantime you can read @jkuramot's post on OracleApps or check out the hashtag page for #supers on Twitter.

This post is just something to link to so I can stop tweeting on who the green haired avatar is and why I chose her.

Who The Green Haired Avatar Is

The green haired avatar is an anime character from the Robotech cartoon series in the 80's that I totally worshipped as a little girl. Her name is Miriya and she was an original bad ass geek girl fighter pilot who was Ace of the Zentraedi Elite Forces, Captain of the Quadrano Squadron. As described from the Robotech site:

The ace of the Zentraedi Forces, Miriya is a fearsome warrior who piloted the Zentraedi Power Armor. Upon discovering the combat talents of Max Sterling, Miriya takes it upon herself to hunt him down, but finds herself frustrated by the "micronian" ace in combat. Miriya infiltrates the SDF-1 to challenge Max and regain her honor but finds herself humiliated in a video game duel against him tries to kill him in a knife fight. Beaten for a last time, she suddenly finds herself in love and marries him in a historic wedding that unites the humans and the Zentraedi. Miriya sticks by Max's side through the war and helps rebuild Earth from the ashes left by Dolza's fleet.

and here's how she used to kick butt on tv...

...and that is why I am a green haired avatar on Twitter this week. =)

Video Thumbnails Are Evil

...i was just checking out my FriendFeed and totally forgot that every Seesmic video I post is also being fed through now too. this whole videoblogging thing leaves me rather defeated and humbled when it comes to my vanity. it appears no matter how nice i try and make my hair and makeup look for the camera...you can't escape the inevitable ridiculous looking thumbnail picture that has a mind of its own. *sigh* oh well.
